Maintenance & Revision
I realized that it had been a while since I checked in with my CV of failures, and a much bigger while since I did so with my list of beliefs. So that’s what I did this week.
I have to imagine that the jobs and awards sections of the CV of failures is presently going to enter a period of stasis. The awards section has already been static for a while, but with the upcoming change in work/life, I’m simply not going to be entertaining thoughts of new jobs for a while. I did think it would be a useful exercise to add a section on things that I’d like to do in my life that I have failed to do to this point.
Apparently, I hadn’t updated my list of beliefs since August of 2014, so it was absolutely time to revise. Interestingly I didn’t make too many changes, though I did move some things around and added a few beliefs related to American culture that I’ve come to believe over the past 3.5 years.
In both cases, I think it’s useful to keep these lists and return to them periodically to see how they map against current experience. There’s something that happens when I place my thoughts and life occurrences somewhere external to your brain that helps me get a handle on how I’m thinking and feeling about things that I don’t think I could get if I kept it all inside my skull. I can't recommend it enough!
Do you have a list of failure and/or beliefs? Do you have thoughts about mine? Drop me a line or leave a comment if you have something to say.
