Nas--Telling It Like It Is Since 6:12 pm Yesterday

I have really enjoyed listening to this audio clip of rapper Nas telling off Jesse Jackson by way of MTV.  Things just get stranger and stranger around here.

"I think Jesse Jackson, he's the biggest player hater," Nas fumed during a conference call. "His time is up. All you old n---as, time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don't wanna hear that sh-- no more. It's a new day. It's a new voice. I'm here now. We don't need Jesse; I'm here. I got this. We got Barack, we got David Banners and Young Jeezys. We're the voice now. It's no more Jesse. Sorry. Goodbye. You ain't helping nobody in the 'hood. That's the bottom line. Goodbye, Jesse. Bye!"

My three favorite parts:

  1. Nice job lumping the entire leadership of the civil rights movement together as "All you old n---as."  Really helping the cause with that one.  Similarly nice work classifying the history of the civil rights movement as "that sh--"
  2. I can't express my relief that Nas has taken it upon himself to single-handedly take the helm of the movement ("I'm here.  I got this.")
  3. Finally, I wonder what Nas, David Banners and Young Jeezy are doing to help people in "the 'hood"?  Other than taking their money and blowing it all on ridiculously extravagent bling.

Additional kudos for getting in a gratuitous album plug in the process.

Finally, my favorite line from the original MTV article:

Among the highlights of the leaked material is "Fried Chicken" with Busta Rhymes, on which the MCs compare alluring women to eating chicken and pork.

I have a dream, where someday overpaid musicians will slowly bleed the American underclass of their hard-earned money while writing songs comparing women to eating various foodstuffs.

Keep Hope Alive.
