New Scientist has an article on "DIY Biology" a nascent movement of endeavoring individuals who create homemade biotech laboratories with all of the fun, homespun solutions that you would expect from doing fancy things at home. There's even the obligatory website for all things DIY Bio.
Needless to say, I'll be looking into setting up one of these once the wife and I move out of our tiny apartment. Flourescent yogurt here I come!
