Back After A While
I’m sure you’ve noticed a large drop-off in postings around here since the turn of the new year. There’s really an excellent reason for such a turn, and it’s not really one that needs discussion. Needless to say, it was fundamental, and that the writing that I was doing was turned well inward while I processed recent events. I will give an unsolicited plug to Buster Benson’s 750words, which is a private online writing space, for being an incalculably important bit of my own therapy. I really can not thank him enough for putting up such a useful tool, and I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves struggling to process things in their life. Still, it is now almost the middle of the third month of the new year, and I find myself able to think about maybe starting to put up some more content with a bit more focus.
Specifically, I think a turn outward to more explicit discussion of issues related to my chosen profession of teaching children science, is probably merited. There are a few reasons why I feel this way. Mostly, it has to do with the fact that the job that I love doing (teaching public school to teenagers), and the way that I do it (working my ass off in the classroom and outward), seem to have become the equal opportunity whipping boy of anyone in political power at current, and as always I find myself at odds with most of everything that is being discussed by people who profess to want to “fix” education in this country.
Anyway, there’s a lot of time for that, and a lot of things to be discussed. Somehow, I still seem to have a few followers around these parts, and hopefully I’ll be able to reward their patience with something that actually proves worthwhile.
