Oh, That's Why.
A few days ago, we spat up a brief mention of the US Government’s desire to get rid of internet whistleblower site wikileaks. Whereas some might argue that wikileaks willingness to post classified information makes it a national security threat to the government, others of a more skeptical mind might argue that the only reason any government would like to shut down an unfettered faucet of free speech is because that government might have things that it would like to hide. The more astute members of the readership will note that these two aims are by no means mutual and exclusive of each other.
Which is why this story caught my attention today:
WikiLeaks has posted a video on its website which it claims shows the killing of civilians by the US military in Baghdad in 2007.
Regardless of how you might feel about our current military operations, the nature of sites like wikileaks, or the particulars of the specific instance detailed in the story, I am hard pressed to understand why anyone interested in making sure that there continues to be an outlet for the ugliest (and therefore most in need of sunshine) truths of our existence.
Wikileaks is collecting donations. If you have a few dollars to spare, maybe they are worth your while.
