Scenes From The Sausage Mill: We're All Idiots Here

Having been stumbling around looking for something worth putting up here that wasn’t in the theme of “What I found on the internet”, I was lucky enough to begin a new semester in my pursuit of a degree in educational administration.  Plenty to discuss.

What do all of the following have in common:

  • A room full of post-graduate students who spent the first half an hour of a class rehashing the structure of the federal government.
  • A professor who warned me that I would have to “scramble” to write a four-page paper in a two-week time span, and that the graduate-level class I am enrolled in was difficult because it contained “a lot of reading”.
  • A syllabus that appears to be a photocopy of a mimeograph.

Give up?  They are all aspects of an actual class in School Law that I sat through this past Wednesday.

No shit.

I don’t know what it says about the caliber of the program I am enrolled in (widely spoken of as if it is the most rigorous of it’s kind on Long Island) or the cognitive level of my fellow students (some of whom possess breathtakingly poor leadership instincts), that these things all transpired in a class of adults, but whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to suggest the semester will be particularly stimulating.
